In memory of the immigrants who left their homes for the better and never arrived!
The fashion collection “Namak-e Safar” is about distances.
The distances between here, Berlin, and the homeland cities of the Arabic Alphabet, like: Tehran, Damascus, Beirut, Cairo, Sari, Doha, Baghdad, Kabul. (with open ending)
The designs are the Names of those cities and the Numbers represent the kilometres to Berlin.
It follows the project „Type and Politics – Depoliticizing Arabic Letters“.(more)
Fashion exhibition and music event Presenting a pop, silkscreen printed and knitted fashion collection by G.Kat Berlin with motives of Persian typography in limited edition.
Designs on display make use of square Kufic letters – a classic style in Persian typography – and are limited editions in silkscreen, printed by G.Kat Berlin.
They show the names of Middle Eastern cities, where the Arabic alphabet is originated, and their distances in kilometres to Berlin.
